Blackjack Strategy: Single Deck Games

The blackjack game of single deck has an integral advantage for players over a blackjack game of multiple decks. First, the edge of the casino, as opposed to the edge of a basic strategic player, is at 0. Second, players will experience more positive counts often and therefore, they do not need a huge bet spread to actually beat the game, a bet spread of 1-4 is just fine.

However, the only negative concept of this single deck game is that is basically attracts more attention from pit bosses since they know that card counters can really beat the blackjack single deck game more readily than at the game of multiple decks.

First, players must evaluate the single deck rules, to determine if the game has a good set of rules, since some games have not-so-good rules. Players will have a slight idea of how mixing of rules can truly affect the edge of the casino in blackjack single deck.

The best rule in single deck is when they allow unrestricted doubling or replacing the double-down rule with re-splitting the aces. And the worst rule for single deck is the restriction of doubling to a two card 11 and/or 10 by the casino.

Single Deck Rules: Casino Advantage: S17 - 0.01% S17, DAS - 0.13% H17 + 0.18% H17, DAS + 0.06% H17, RSA + 0.15% H17, D10/11 + 0.44% H17, DAS, RSA + 0.03%

Legend: DAS - Double after splitting pair RSA - Re-split aces allowed S17 - Dealer stands D10/11 - Double only on two cards 10 and/or 11. H17 - Dealer hits soft 17

As for the general rule of single deck, players will find more games with favorable rules in casinos located in Las Vegas than in any other casino area. Another thing to consider in determining whether the game is worth playing or not, is the percentage of cards that are being dealt from the deck preceding to the shuffle.

Forget about the games that shuffle the deck of cards after one to two rounds. At least players want 75% of the cards in the deck to be dealt.

Players can perform card counting if they see more cards preceding the shuffle. If the game you're looking at shuffles too quickly, look around some more.

Another thing, as much as possible, do not play at a crowded table if you want to play the single deck blackjack game. The ideal number of players on the table is at 3 players only, including you.

In a single deck game, bet only with two units on your first hand after the cards are shuffled, and then change your bet based on the running count as the game moves on.
