Blackjack Strategy: Playing Conditions

An important factor in winning at the game of blackjack is the playing rules. This is another criterion that card counters must consider.

Take, for example: with a lesser number of decks, the player will have a greater advantage. Likewise, the rules that let doubling after splitting the pair, surrendering late, and standing instead of hitting on soft 17 of the dealer, will be more advantageous for players.

In some games that have marginal rules, one can win if the player has very good penetration. Example: almost all counters avoid a game of 8-deck, but there are decent rules and it has a 75% penetration; it will be a better game as compared to a 6-deck game with the same rules, but only a penetration of 50%.

In a single deck game that has unfavorable rules, but the penetration is at 70%, it is more profitable than a game that deals 50% of the cards, while having more favorable rules.

It is to the advantage of the counters to play at tables that are not too crowded. The best game is playing with the dealer alone, head-to-head. This lets players see more cards before making their decisions.

If the count gets too high, the player will have more of a chance of the dealer getting the tens and aces. Card counters can similarly spread to 2 hands in situations like high-count; this gives them a greater chance of getting the tens and aces.

Players playing at less crowded table games will definitely increase the number of hands dealt per hour, and the rate of the counter's chances to win.

One important point is whether the pit boss will allow a decent bet spread, or not. In a game of single deck the player will need to spread at least 1 to 3 or 1 to 4 units of betting. In a game of 6-deck, the bet spread should be at 1 to 8 or 1 to 10.

If players are limited in their bet spread by a tense pit boss that provides them "heat" each time they make a huge bet, and then their profit will potentially decrease.

Knowing the theory of card counting, and learning it, is one matter, but executing it to yield winnings is another matter altogether. Looking for good playing conditions is definitely important.

There are skills other than this that should be mastered as well, like disguising the player's skills when they play, balancing player's profits with risks, and typically knowing regular countermeasures that casinos utilize against card counters.

All the other skills that are mentioned above can help players generate more winnings in the game of blackjack. However, playing conditions for card counting should be well-mastered to increase potential profits.
