Winning in Blackjack

At first glance, blackjack looks like a very easy game. True, blackjack is one of the easiest games to learn and understand. Mastering blackjack is another thing. While you can learn the basic fundamentals in just a few hours, being successful in blackjack takes several months and even years of study, practice and effort.

The good news is that winning consistently in blackjack is possible through a combination of strategy and practice. As long as you are willing to put in the time and effort necessary to succeed in blackjack, then being successful in blackjack is not a far-fetched dream.

The most important aspect of successful blackjack is the basic strategy. Some players are remiss on this area and think they can win after reading a few pages of a blackjack strategy book. These poor guys don't know that it takes more than just shallow reading to win in blackjack.

First, buy or borrow an excellent blackjack strategy book, preferably one that is written by a well-known professional player. Then, don't just read the book but also understand its contents. There's a fine line between reading and understanding. If you're just reading for leisure or entertainment, chances are you will forget everything you've read by tomorrow.

Understanding takes time, patience and effort. It means reading a book over and over again until you get the idea and until you remember the contents by heart. Once you've done that, applying what you've learned will be second nature to you.

You should also buy a basic blackjack strategy card. This strategy card tells you when to hit, stand, split, double down or surrender based on the dealer's hand. A blackjack strategy card is a must for every player who wants to succeed in the game.

How about those famous blackjack systems such as Hi-Opt II and Revere? There's no harm in using blackjack systems as long as you know what you're doing. If they work for other people, they can work for you, too. However, you must first ascertain that your system is effective, or else you'll just be wasting your hard-earned money.

After you've done your study, then it's time for practice. You can practice for free at online blackjack tables on the Internet, or you can play at the low-limit tables. Practicing will allow you to apply what you've learned from your study and you can even pick up a few skills and techniques from other players.

Once you begin winning and become more confident in your play, you can proceed to playing in real or online blackjack tournaments. If possible, join live blackjack tournaments so that you can learn skills not possible in online games, such as bluffing. A single tournament game is comparable to two or three regular blackjack games.

Continue studying the vital strategies and techniques, play and practice more, join tournaments, be patient, persistent and disciplined, and you will win easily in blackjack.
