How to Play Blackjack

The card game blackjack is sometimes called twenty one. For years, blackjack remained one of the simplest card games played in salons and casinos. But no matter how players call blackjack, the object of the blackjack remains to be besting the dealer. To play blackjack, a boot of cards which usually contains one, two, four, six or eight decks of cards is needed. In most casinos, a continuous shuffling machine is used to shuffle the deck of cards.

The blackjack single and double deck, the blackjack dealer distributes the cards to the players at the table. But in multi-deck blackjack, the cards are dealt from a box termed as the shoe. But this can vary depending on the availability of this equipment in the casino. In hand held blackjack games, the cards are dealt from the deck face down. The blackjack player then picks up the cards on the table.

However, in a shoe game, the cards are dealt from the deck facing up to the player. The blackjack players are not allowed to touch the cards. Other blackjack regulations remain the same no matter what kind of blackjack variation is being played.

The goal of the blackjack player is to beat the dealer, and to get the highest card of value of 21. For instance, in a blackjack game, a player needs to have cards higher than that of the dealer, even if the cards total is not equal to 21. Getting over 21 in blackjack is termed a bust and the blackjack player loses the pot automatically. But if the dealer busts in blackjack, the other blackjack player does not win either.

In blackjack, the suits of the cards have no value. All other cards in blackjack are counted at face value. All face cards in blackjack have a value of ten. However, an ace can either have a value of one or eleven at the discretion of the player. A hand, or cards that do not contain an ace is termed as a hard hand, while if there is an ace, it is called a soft hand.

The blackjack table is where the games are played. It can be kidney shaped but in most casinos, blackjack tables are semi-circle. Each blackjack player is seated on different circles along the blackjack table. When the blackjack player sits on the table, chips must be bought from the blackjack dealer before the game can proceed. The blackjack player can only place his wager on his space on his semi-circle. Only bets inside the betting circle are counted. After these, the blackjack game can now begin.
