Blackjack Etiquette

If there is a blackjack game in progress, it is considered polite to ask before you join their game. Sometimes it's better not to join a game in progress - here are the reasons why:

1) The new player will find themselves having a confrontation with another player; this could happen if the one already playing has had good fortune.

2) Some players consider it an act of rudeness, to enter a blackjack game that is in progress.

3) If there is an additional player on the table, the previous good flow of the cards could change pattern, some believe.

4) An addition of a player at the table can worsen the bad set of cards that are already running.

5) If the new player is lucky enough to get a blackjack, the rest of the players on the table will definitely not be happy with the result, rather they will be annoyed.

6) After the new player has been seated, and the dealer immediately gets a blackjack, this can annoy the other players at the table.

7) The new player might catch the people at the blackjack table talking about the last person to "trespass" their table while they were having a peaceful game.

8) Other players will be irritated if they wait for the new player to get their cocktail service while in the middle of a good game.

9) "Trespassing" at the game that is already in progress is considered unmannered by some.

10) The new player will have all the blame if the one doing a secret card counting loses their count. Since they are the one new to the table, they could have caused a wrong count.

11) If the new player enters the table while someone is winning, and suddenly their luck changes, it will be considered the fault of the new player.

12) If the new player enters the game in progress and someone is already losing and then after his arrival the player loses more, it is the new player's fault, also, that their luck didn't change.

13) If the new player sat at the blackjack table with the game in progress, and somebody has won, the winning player will blame the new player for sitting because they could have won earlier if the new player didn't join their table at that particular moment.

14) Because the new player joins the table, the dealer is now beginning to deal more hands with "bust cards".

15) To avoid ruffling feathers with other players, who can tend to be a superstitious lot, avoid joining a game in progress, if you can. Let them be done with it and you can join a fresh group. There are players that have different attitudes and some attitudes might not be favorable to. To avoid confrontation or ill feelings, do not just barge in at any table in the middle of play. Some players regard their superstitions quite highly.
