The History of Blackjack
The history of blackjack is unclear, however the generally accepted thought is that it evolved out of other French games such as “Chemin de Fer” and “French Ferme”. Blackjack originated in French casinos around the 1700's where it was called “vingt-et-un” (twenty-and-one) and has been in United States since the 1800's. The name blackjack came from an early bet (since discontinued) that paid 10 to 1 if the player got a jack of spades and an ace of spades, both black cards, as the first two cards.
Blackjack Movie
Black Jack became even more popular after the Academy award winning movie "Rain Man" starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman. Hoffman played the autistic brother of Cruise, a failing exotic car dealer. Realizing that his autistic brother has the ability to memorize the cards, Cruise takes him to Las Vegas and uses his skills to get him out of his financial difficulties. Just for the record, memorizing cards and cards counting are not the same skills, otherwise, we would be rich by now!
Down with Blackjack!
We are sure you also know that these days, it takes almost as much luck and skill to find a good online blackjack casino as it does to win money playing Blackjack online. There are thousands of online casinos, but a guy or girl looking for a square game of Blackjack needs more luck than a gold miner just to make a few bucks. Try to find a Blackjack game online and you run into the craziest places. There are all sorts of tiny casinos that were built yesterday morning and know absolutely nothing about the glorious game of Blackjack. What’s worse is that most of these online casinos don’t even care about the game; for them Blackjack is just another product to sell online.
